About Printer.business: Independent Office Printer Guide
Printer.business is an independent guide to choosing and running printers in offices and small businesses. We focus on the questions that cost businesses money: which class of printer fits your volume, what each page really costs, whether to buy, lease or use a managed print service, and how to keep networked printers and the documents they handle secure.
Printer.business is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any printer manufacturer, dealer, leasing company or managed print provider. Brand and product names, where they appear, are used only to describe products. We do not provide technical support for any brand and we do not sell printers, toner or contracts.
What we cover
- Buying guides: how to choose an office printer or multifunction printer, laser vs inkjet, A3 vs A4, colour vs black and white, how many printers an office needs, refurbished copiers, receipt printers, ID card printers, document scanners vs MFPs, copier finisher options, portable printers for business, and printers for a medical office or church office.
- Running costs: cost per page, toner costs, total cost of ownership, leasing vs buying, how to reduce printing costs, printer energy use, copier cost per click, managed print pricing models, the end of a copier lease, going paperless, toner recycling, outsourcing vs in-house printing and office printer paper.
- Print management: managed print services, network printer security, secure print release, office print policies, print audits, scan to email setup, print servers, copier data security, HIPAA compliant printing, GDPR and printers, cloud print management, guest printing, home printing policies, moving office printers, online fax vs fax machines and office printer placement.
As of October 2026 the site has 60 guides in English and 36 in Spanish. Spanish readers can start at the Spanish buying guide.
If you need help with a printer fault, a setup walkthrough or home printing, other independent sites cover those topics; this site sticks to the business side of printing.
How we write our guides
- We start from the questions small businesses actually ask before buying or signing a contract.
- We explain methods rather than publishing prices. Prices for printers, toner and contracts change constantly and differ by country, so we show you how to calculate costs from the quotes you receive. Any example figures are labelled as illustrative.
- We cite primary sources such as ISO/IEC yield standards, ENERGY STAR, NIST and the UK National Cyber Security Centre.
- We do not publish ratings, reviews or “best model” lists that we cannot back up, and we do not accept payment for coverage.
- We review guides regularly, refresh sources, and fix links when official pages move.
- Every guide shows the date it was last updated. If you spot an error, please tell us through the contact page.
History
This domain previously hosted a short page about inkjet printers. In October 2026 it was rebuilt as a guide for office and small business printing. The useful parts of the old content, such as how laser and inkjet printers differ, are now part of our laser vs inkjet office printer guide.
